On 5 May of each year, the world celebrates World Hand Hygiene Day. The aim of this day is to promote hand hygiene practices worldwide. The particular intention is to raise awareness among health care providers, patients and carers of the importance of hand hygiene in the prevention of man-made diseases.

In Burundi, the theme of this year was “SAVE LIVES: Wash your hands.”

The Burundian Network for Infection Prevention and Control (RBPCI) in collaboration with the Prince Louis Rwagasore Clinic and with the support of the Infection Control African Network (ICAN) held a day of awareness on hand hygiene for health care providers, patients and caretakers at the Prince Louis Rwagasore Clinic (CPLR) on May 30, 2024 As part of the celebration of the World Hand Hygiene Day in Burundi and carry the message of the Minister for Health.

The objective of the activity was to contribute to the well-being and safety of health care providers, patients and sick guards by raising their awareness of the importance of hand hygiene in preventing infections.
